Preview a search title and description

Type a title, description and URL, or paste a page's HTML to fill them in. The preview measures the text in pixels, which is closer to how snippets are cut than a character count.

How to use

  1. Enter the title, description and URL, or paste the page's HTML to fill them in.
  2. Watch the pixel width; text beyond the approximate limit is cut at a word with “...”.
  3. Optionally add a search query to see its words in bold, then copy the tags.

Worked example

The 68-character title “Mountain Bike Maintenance Guide: Weekly Checks, Tools & Common Fixes” measures about 670 px in 20 px Arial, over the roughly 600 px desktop width, so it is shown as “Mountain Bike Maintenance Guide: Weekly Checks, Tools & ...”.

Supported formats and limits

InputTitle, description, URL (or pasted page HTML), Optional site name, date, search query and favicon image
OutputDesktop and mobile preview, Length warnings, <title>, meta description and canonical tags
EngineCanvas measureText in Arial (rough built-in estimate as fallback) against approximate widths: 600 px titles and 920 px descriptions on desktop

Limitations

  • Search engines often rewrite titles and descriptions and change their layout; the widths used here are approximations, not a guarantee.
  • Pixel widths depend on the fonts on your device; without Arial (or a metric-compatible font) a rougher built-in estimate is used.

Questions

Why measure pixels instead of characters?

Wide letters such as W take more room than narrow ones such as i, so two titles of the same length can be cut at different points. The tool measures text with your browser's Arial against roughly 600 px for desktop titles and 920 px for descriptions.

Will search engines show my snippet exactly like this?

No. Search engines often rewrite titles and descriptions and change their layouts. Treat the widths as a guide for keeping the important words first, not a guarantee.
