How to use

  1. To create: add files or a folder, choose a compression level and press Create ZIP. Already-compressed formats are stored by default; you can override Store per file.
  2. To extract: open an archive. The tree shows sizes and space saved; preview text and images, extract single files, or select files and extract them (or save them to a folder in Chromium browsers).

Worked example

The sample (a 33.9 KB text log and a small CSV in a stock folder) zips at the default level 6 to 6.5 KB, 19% of the original size, with the stock/ folder kept.

Supported formats and limits

InputAny files (create), ZIP, TAR, TAR.GZ, GZ (extract)
OutputZIP, Extracted files (single downloads, a ZIP of the selection, or saved to a folder in Chromium browsers)
LimitsCreate: up to 2 GB of files in total (no ZIP64 output). Extract: archives up to 2 GB; .gz and .tar.gz up to 1 GB unpacked; up to 4 GB per extraction; entries over 10 MB that expand more than 200:1 are blocked.
Enginefflate streaming Deflate/Inflate (ZIP creation in a Web Worker); ZIPs are read from their central directory in 1 MB slices with CRC-32 checks, zip-slip path sanitising and zip-bomb guards

Limitations

  • Password-protected entries (ZipCrypto or AES) are detected and listed but cannot be decrypted.
  • RAR and 7z archives, and ZIP entries using Deflate64, BZIP2, LZMA or Zstandard, are not supported.
  • Links and special files inside TAR archives are not extracted.
  • Already-compressed files (JPEG, MP4) shrink very little.

Questions

Can it open password-protected or RAR archives?

No. Encrypted ZIP entries (ZipCrypto or AES) are listed but cannot be decrypted, and RAR and 7z archives are not supported, nor ZIP entries compressed with Deflate64, BZIP2, LZMA or Zstandard.

Why did my ZIP hardly get smaller?

Files that are already compressed, such as JPEG, MP4, MP3, PDF and Office files, shrink very little, so they are stored without compressing them again by default. Text and logs usually shrink a lot.

How is extraction kept safe?

Paths that would escape the destination folder are sanitised, CRC-32 checksums are checked, and entries over 10 MB that expand more than 200 times are blocked.
