How to use
- Paste a list.
- Choose sort order and optional filter (contains, does not contain, regex).
- Copy the result.
Worked example
Natural order sorts file2, file10, file1 as file1, file2, file10, whereas plain alphabetical gives file1, file10, file2.
Supported formats and limits
| Input | Text |
|---|---|
| Output | Text |
| Engine | Intl.Collator (locale and numeric-aware) sorting; crypto-random shuffle |
Limitations
- Numeric sort uses the first number in each line; lines without a number are placed last in their original order.
Questions
How do numbers inside lines affect the order?
Alphabetical order compares text character by character, so file10 comes before file2. Natural order reads digit runs as numbers: file1, file2, file10. Numeric order sorts by the first number in each line, including negatives and thousands separators such as 1,000.
Does case or spacing change the order?
By default sorting ignores case and lines are trimmed, so “ apple” and “Apple” sort together. Turn on Case sensitive or turn off trimming to change that.
How random is the shuffle?
It uses an unbiased Fisher-Yates shuffle driven by the browser's crypto.getRandomValues, so every order is equally likely. The shuffle button draws a new order; the result cannot be reproduced later.
