How to use

  1. Paste a timestamp; the unit is detected from its length.
  2. Or pick a date, time and time zone to get the timestamp.

Worked example

1700000000 is 2023-11-14T22:13:20Z.

Supported formats and limits

InputTimestamp, Date and time
OutputISO 8601, RFC 2822, relative time
EngineIntl.DateTimeFormat with IANA time zones; unit auto-detection

Limitations

  • Leap seconds are not represented in Unix time.
  • Unit detection goes by digit count, so a seconds value far in the future can be mistaken for milliseconds; choose the unit if in doubt.

Questions

How is the unit chosen?

By the number of digits: up to 11 is seconds, 12 to 14 milliseconds, 15 to 17 microseconds and 18 to 20 nanoseconds. You can also choose the unit yourself. 1700000000 is 2023-11-14T22:13:20Z.

How are time zones and daylight saving handled?

A timestamp is a single instant, shown in UTC and in any IANA time zone. When converting a local time, a time skipped by clocks moving forward uses the next valid time, and a time that happens twice uses the earlier one, with a warning in both cases.
