How to use
- Paste the text; scores and highlights update as you type.
- Accept plainer words, or ignore them, from the suggestion list.
- Optionally choose a reading level, press Download model and Rewrite in plain language, then compare scores and changes.
Worked example
The 51-word sample sentence (“In the event that the applicant fails to submit the requisite documentation…”) scores Flesch Reading Ease 17.4 and grade 23.5, and is flagged as a long sentence with 5 wordy phrases and 5 passive verbs. A two-sentence plain version (“If you do not send the papers before the deadline, we will cancel your application. We will not pay back your fees.”) scores 84.2.

Privacy
On-device model. Processing runs in this browser. The open-source model files are downloaded once from the model host (Hugging Face) and cached; your content is not uploaded.
- Hugging Face: Only after you press Download model: requests for the model files (SmolLM2-360M-Instruct, about 390 MB, or 276 MB with WebGPU, only for the optional rewrite) from huggingface.co and its CDN, which see your IP address. Your text and files are never sent.
