How to use
- Add photos to see their metadata, including a GPS warning when location is present.
- Choose Remove all or keep orientation and colour profile.
- Download the cleaned files.
Worked example
The sample phone JPEG carries camera, date, GPS, XMP, IPTC and a comment. With the default options the cleaned file keeps only the Orientation tag (Rotate 90 CW) and its sRGB colour profile; the compressed image data is byte-for-byte unchanged, so the pixels are identical.
Supported formats and limits
| Input | JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC (view only), TIFF (view only) |
|---|---|
| Output | JPEG, PNG, WebP without metadata |
| Limits | Up to 100 MB per file; 500 files per batch. |
| Engine | exifr parsing; byte-level segment/chunk removal (no recompression) |
Limitations
- HEIC, AVIF and TIFF metadata can be viewed but not removed; convert them first.
- Only embedded metadata is removed. Text or a location stamp drawn into the picture itself stays visible.
Questions
What information remains in the exported photo?
With the default options, a tiny EXIF block holding only the orientation (so phone photos still display upright) and the ICC colour profile. Clear both boxes to remove those too. JPEG files also keep the JFIF and Adobe header segments, which describe how to decode the colours, not who took the photo or where.
Does removing metadata change image quality?
No. The image is not decoded and re-encoded: metadata segments (JPEG) or chunks (PNG and WebP) are dropped and the image data is copied byte for byte, so the decoded pixels are identical.
What is removed from a JPEG?
EXIF (camera, date, GPS), XMP, IPTC, comments, other application segments, embedded multi-picture data and anything stored after the end of the image, such as extra preview or depth images.
